2020 Crop Plan

Here it is. The thing I’ve been working on for daysss. The thing that all the books tell you to make. The thing that made me order an outrageous amount of greens. That’s right, folks. It’s my crop plan. The plan that will feed me, my family, and some lucky folks in my community in 2020.

As I’ve mentioned, Zach and I have ambitious goals when it comes to producing our own food. In 2020, we want to produce enough potatoes, squash, cabbage, carrots, beets, onions, tomato sauce, pickles, peas, and beans to last us through much of the winter. That list is in no particular order, each item is important to us. They’re all staples in our diet. We want them all to be grown in our back yard.

I also recently decided that I want to try selling some of what I grow at local farmers markets. Yippee! I have been going a little stir crazy this winter, and look forward to interacting with people at said markets this summer. I’ve narrowed my list of potential markets to four. Now I need to fill out applications and hope for the best!

So I need a big garden. And a big crop plan to help me stay focused. And maybe some help weeding? Ha.

What are you growing this year? Do you have a plan to pull it all together? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Hi Sabine and Zach!
Spoke with your folks this morning who shared your inspiring farm site. I love your garden plan and selling at the markets is an awesome idea.Which ones are you thinking about doing? Here in Florida I put up key hole garden with the compost bin as part of the garden. Planted the regulars: tomatoes, cukes, peppers etc, but then I also planted okra and lemon grass which I’ve never done before. I love growing plants! I’ll look forward to seeing your farm this summer.Stay creative, happy and healthy.
