Here we are. It’s me and Zach. And our dogs. In front of out 100’x35’ garden. And an old, overgrown apple tree. We are already in over our heads. Yay!
Our lives are changing. Last month we moved to Maine and are started our own small farmstead. What even is that? Our very own farm & homestead. We’ve been reading and studying. We are inspired by famous, written about farms like Essex Farm, Polyface Farm, Les Jardins de la Grelinette and Four-Season Farm. But we also find everyday inspiration from those we follow on instagram and youtube.
I am beyond excited to begin — but where do we start? There are so many projects, both big and small. We want to paint the house, redesign the front yard gardens, get livestock, develop a market garden, build a farm stand, renovate the bathroom… Sometimes, I get overwhelmed just thinking about it!! But then I remind myself we have the rest of our lives to build this place. We have years and years and years to tinker and putter and adjust… build and grow and change. We’ll get there, step by step.
I want to use this blog to share the tinkering, puttering, and adjusting we do to build a successful farmstead. I want to share DIY projects about homesteading and also document what it takes us to grow our business. I hope you enjoy following along.
