At my parents house, Sunday brunch as a weekly holiday staple. We would gather around the table with a stack of crepes, some bacon that had set off the smoke alarm, and scrabbled eggs. Most families would call it breakfast, since we ate at 8 am, but we’d eat enough food to be full ’till dinner.
Brunch continued to be a staple until more recently, when Zach and I moved to our own farmstead and lived close enough that we didn’t have to travel home to Maine on the weekends. We still brunch occasionally, especially around school breaks and in the summer.
But this year brunches have been less frequent due to the pandemic. In stead of seeing family, we are at home, in our bathrobes and slippers.
While stuck at home, Zach and I have started our own little traditional weekend brunch, with the centerpiece being a dutch baby.
It is an easy, one-pan breakfast that requires very little work. Just wisk the together eggs, milk & flour; throw it into a cast-iron skillet with melted butter, and bake in a 425 degree oven for 20 minutes.
Bam. It’s delicious.
