That’s right – what’s growing on???
…
Ha. Do you get it? What’s growing on… like what’s going on…. But growing… because #farmlife.
You may think there is NOTHING growing on a Maine farmstead in January, but you are very wrong! Sort of.
Our animals are in fact growing a bunch! Our hens are laying eggs – almost 7 a day. Our ewes are growing lambs (hopefully). Our roosters and ram are… growing big and strong so they can protect the more valuable farm members (the ladies!). There is a lot growing on in January!
Our gardens are bare, but things are still planted: garlic, perennials, etc. They aren’t growing per se (they are dormant), but our winter has been so mild that they might be?
Our green house has yet to come alive… that is for February…. But we do have some (failed) microgreens and a window-sill herb garden growing in the kitchen.
It is a quiet time on the farm, but it’s definitely needed given the business we’re about to dive into. Tune in next month to learn for a new addition: ONIONS!!!!! And anything else I can start 12+ weeks before last frost.
See ya soon!
