It’s officially winter time on the farm. Some people think that it’s still fall, but I whole-heartedly disagree. I know that it is not even mid November, BUT we have had three snow storms and two power outages. We have lit up the wood stove and turned up our heat. I don’t know why its officially winter, but I do I know one thing: it came before we were prepared. Our outdoor furniture hasn’t been brought inside. We didn’t burn the last of our campfire wood piles. And forget about snow tires. But it is okay, because look at how beautiful it is.
I have dreaded going outside (most days) because it is cold and I didn’t have my winter boots and gloves. My fingers froze and my feet got covered in snow. Sigh. This weekend I broke down and dragged the winter gear out of the closet. How I miss Southern California this time of year…. Why did I ever move back??
Oh right… When I am warm and cozy, this just might be my favorite time of year. Days are short (which means more sleep!), the house smells like a cozy warm fire, and snow is infinitely more beautiful then rain (even though that snow turned to ice this morning). I can stay inside and focus on the house projects that need to be done: paint the pink room, take down that wall in the kitchen, refinish the wood floors… my list goes on and on. I have about 3 months until I need to refocus on next years garden. Let’s get started!
I am so grateful to be able to work from home. Gone are the days where I left before the sun rose and returned after it set. I get to enjoy these snowy morning with a cup of coffee and crackling fire place.
Do you love the winter?
